How to Discontinue Resident Medication Orders
When a medication is no longer being administered, it’s important to discontinue the medication order. This action:
Moves the order to the resident’s medication history
Retains all charting records
Updates the Medication Administration Record (MAR) to display "Discontinued" with the date
Inserts ‘X’ marks in the passing time boxes for all future dates
⚠️ Important: Including both discontinue date and time is required. This is especially important when the medication is scheduled more than once a day.
